The following log is based on reports from the Holmen and Onalaska police and fire departments.

Onalaska Police Department

Thursday, Aug. 21

7:56 p.m. — A 39-year-old man reported someone broke into his car while it was parked at the spillway lot. Someone used a large rock to break out his passenger window to gain entry. About $5 in change was missing.

Friday, Aug. 22

9:12 a.m. — A 41-year-old man reported damage to his car while it was parked on the 500 block of Wilson Street. The gas cap was off and some damage had been done to the paint.

3:12 p.m. — Merchants Bank reported a client deposited two checks to his accounts on July 11, one for $7,100 and one for $7,000. The $7,000 check was returned for insufficient funds. After several attempts to contact the client with no success, the bank called police claiming the client intended to defraud the bank of $7,000. The client has not returned phone calls by the bank.

10:56 p.m. — A 17-year-old teen reported his tire was slashed while his vehicle was parked on the 2100 block of Sandalwood Drive. Two witnesses were able to describe the suspect to police.

Saturday, Aug. 23

4:05 a.m. — A police officer discovered a city sign at Van Riper Park was vandalized with graffiti that said “Can’t Stop Crazy Hmong Boyz” in black paint. Police received nine more complaints Saturday and Sunday about graffiti being painted on sidewalks, buildings and cars.

Monday, Aug. 25

10:14 a.m. — Two 20-year-old men were arrested for being in possession of stolen property. They were working on the engine of a van that had been reported stolen from La Crosse.

4:48 p.m. — A 28-year-old woman reported someone stole her bicycle from the rear of her residence on the 900 block of 10th Avenue North.

Thursday, Aug. 28

1:05 a.m. — A 25-year-old woman was charged with domestic disorderly conduct and a 28-year-old man was charged with domestic substantial battery for an altercation at their home on the 900 block of Well Street. During the altercation, she kicked and struck his vehicle and he pushed her to the ground, causing abrasions and a fractured wrist.

1:20 a.m. — A 37-year-old La Crosse man was arrested for breaking in the door to the apartment of his ex-girlfriend and her daughter on the 500 block of 13th Avenue South.

9:51 a.m. — A 25-year-old man reported someone broke into the home he shared with his father on the 1600 block of Monroe Street. A 9mm Ruger handgun was taken from a locker. A watch, more than $900 in cash, an X-Box videogame system valued at $300, three controllers worth $45 and 17 X-Box games also were stolen from the home.

Holmen Police Department

Monday, Aug. 25

12:29 a.m. — A 61-year-old man was walking home from Smokey’s Bar when he was attacked by three male juveniles near Halfway Creek Park. The three stopped the man and demanded money. The man struggled with them and one of the youths cut the man on the arm with a knife. The man was able to fight off the attackers and run home, where he called police. Police are asking that anyone with information about the attack please call them or CrimeStoppers.

8:53 a.m. — Someone stole a 200-foot copper extension cord that went from a main box to a temporary fuse box at a construction site on the 900 block of Linden Drive.

1:03 p.m. — A25-year-old woman reported someone fraudulently used her address on the 2000 block of Crooked Avenue to open a Verizon account for telephone service. She was billed for $325.19 for service she did not request.

Tuesday, Aug. 26

1:23 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman with a history of heart trouble was found lifeless at her home computer/telephone in her apartment on the 3500 block of Highway 35. She had been speaking with her son on the phone. He called police when the line went dead and he was unable to reach her. Police broke into the apartment and called for First Responders. The Holmen Area Fire Department and Tri-State Ambulance responded. CPR was performed and the woman’s pulse was restored.

5:10 p.m. — A 17-year-old boy was arrested for battery for striking another 17-year-old boy in the face with his fist. The attack on the 400 block of Lilly Court was unprovoked according to three witnesses, but the assailant said a statement was made and he over-reacted to it. The victim suffered a fractured nose that might require surgery.

Wednesday, Aug. 27

7:56 p.m. — Several youths on bicycles were accosted by a man in the mobile home park who asked them to take a condom he had blown up. They said no and rode away from the man who appeared to be in his 20s.

Thursday, Aug. 28

9:47 a.m. — A bike was stolen from a home on the 200 block of Peterson Street.

Saturday, Aug. 30

1:17 p.m. — Police responded to a call about an out-of-control 9-year-old girl who was swearing, kicking and throwing things at her foster mother on the 500 block of Second Avenue East.

Sunday, Aug. 31

3:11 a.m. — Responding to a call about a domestic dispute, police arrested a 23-year-old woman on an outstanding warrant. A 21-year-old man also was arrested for possession of marijuana at their apartment on the 3500 block of Highway 35. The man had a plastic baggie containing 2.3 grams of marijuana.

9:34 a.m. — Someone damaged a vehicle belonging to a 46-year-old man on the 100 block of Brentwood Lane. Numerous scratches were found covering a vehicle the man bought two months ago. It was the second time the vehicle was vandalized.

Onalaska Fire Department

Tuesday, Aug. 26

2:02 p.m. — First responder call on Highway 16 for a person who fell.

Wednesday, Aug. 27

8:59 p.m. — Fire call on the 1000 block of Quincy Street for a deliberate false alarm.

10:15 p.m. — Fire call on the 9400 block of Highway 16 for a heat detector activation.

Thursday, Aug. 28

1:12 a.m. — First responder call on Well Street for a possible broken arm or wrist.

2:04 a.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for entrapment.

2:45 a.m. — First responder call on R. Stephan Place for a person having a seizure.

5:20 a.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for a person having difficulty breathing.

11:33 p.m. — First responder call on Victoria Lane for someone injured in a fall.

Friday, Aug. 29

10:59 a.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for a person injured in a fall.

3:47 p.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for a person injured in a fall.

Saturday, Aug. 30

8:06 a.m. — Fire call on the 200 block of Sand Lake Road for a natural gas leak.

10:05 a.m. — Fire call on the 4100 block of Beverly Drive for a false alarm.

1:01 p.m. — First responder call on 10th Avenue North for a person having difficulty breathing.

3:10 p.m. — Fire and first responder call on Highway 157 and I-90 for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Sunday, Aug. 31

2:54 a.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for someone injured in a fall.

8:47 a.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for a person who was unresponsive.

1:39 p.m. — First responder call on Sand Lake Road for a person having difficulty breathing.

5:07 p.m. — First responder call on Pine Crest Lane for someone having chest pain.

11:47 p.m. — First responder call on 10th Avenue North for a person with cuts on the wrist.

Monday, Sept. 1

7 a.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for someone injured in a fall.

11:40 a.m. — First responder call on Meier Lane for a person who was choking.

11:54 a.m. — First responder call on Main Street for a person injured in a fall.

8:46 p.m. — First responder call on the 1000 block of Green Street for a person with an unknown medical problem.

Holmen Area Fire Department

The Holmen Area Fire Department did not provide any reports this week.
