So both sides are formed now and they are actually fairly even. Two male U.S. senators on one side, one with almost no experience and the other with 30 some years in the Senate, opposing a senator with over 25 years in Congress, and a female first-term governor of oil-rich Alaska, also somewhat lacking in experience.
The blatant difference is the one with almost no experience is seeking the top job, while the one with some executive experience is seeking the number two spot and is from outside the “beltway.” Obviously one side is going to win, and I believe that whichever side wins they will be a one termer.
One because I believe they will be such a disaster that they will never withstand voter scrutiny after four years (similar to Jimmy Carter). The other will have even more of an age issue that could become more acute if health issues creep into the equation.
That said, I also “strongly” believe that come Jan. 20, 2013, (assuming there will still be life on our planet) the United States will be swearing in its first female president, because both parties will have a female at the head of the ticket. Now I am not saying that it will be Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin, but it will be a female.
There are too many strong-willed, intelligent and talented women in places of power right now, and with what Clinton has accomplished along with the Republicans now also having nominated a female for the number two spot, someone will emerge over the next four years.
Plus, our population might well be 54 percent or more women by 2012. The field has been plowed and the seeds have been sown, the only thing that remains is the harvesting of the crop. I sure hope I am still here to see the real “passing of the torch.”
