The Holmen High School DECA officer team didn’t have much time to rest this summer before diving into plans for the upcoming school year.

DECA officers have been busy scheduling events and socials for the school year, and mapping out what this year in Holmen DECA has to hold. The officer team was elected at the end of the 2007-08 school year by the graduating senior officers.

Potential officers had to fill out an application with questions regarding why they wanted the position and what their plans were concerning DECA. Then they had to have an interview with the five graduating senior officers.

The following students were elected as the officers of Holmen DECA for the 2008-09 school year: senior Jessica Brown, president; senior Christina DeBoer, vice president of leadership development; junior Eryn Johnson, vice president of social intelligence; junior Kayla Sullivan, vice president of public relations; junior Brianna Wesely, vice president of vocational understanding; and sophomore Mackenzie Shriver, vice president of civic consciousness.

The team met in June to discuss and plan DECA events for the school year. They brainstormed ideas for various socials throughout the year; including trips to Valley Fair, Mall of America, a Timberwolves basketball game, a Brewers game and bowling.

The officers also planned out what the rest of the summer was going to hold for them. They will be in the school store during registration on Aug. 6-7. During that time anyone is welcome to come in and check out all the Holmen merchandise.

The officer team also will be taking part in cleaning up the Holmen High School grounds on Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon. Everyone is invited to join in the HHS grounds cleanup day.
