Preliminary budget estimates will be presented to Holmen School District residents at the budget hearing Monday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Holmen School District administrative building.
The board will present the school district’s budget and will hear public comment. The budget hearing follows a regularly scheduled board meeting at 6 p.m.
The district is currently projecting a $37.4 million operating budget which reflects an $86,655 deficit, but that could change once the amount of state aid can be established in October.
Immediately following the budget hearing, the board will hold the district’s annual meeting. At the annual meeting, the school board will seek authorization to establish the tax levy to the maximum allowable (currently estimated to be $13.1 million) under state revenue limits. The school district is estimating a tax rate of $10.24 per $1,000 in equalized property value, down 3 percent from the current $10.55.
While the levy itself is projected to increase 5.8 percent, a 9 percent increase in the equalized value of property in the district will offset that, resulting in a decreased tax rate.
