An Onalaska woman has been disciplined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing for unprofessional conduct.
The board found that Julie K. Lassa, 39, telephoned a patient last September and asked the patient to give her unused morphine the patient had been prescribed for post-surgical pain. The patient refused the request by Lassa, who was recovering from a broken arm, and reported the solicitation to officials.
Lassa is a registered nurse who also has credentials as an advanced practice nurse prescriber.
The nursing board reprimanded Lassa for her actions and ordered her to complete nine hours of board-approved training in “ethics and boundaries” by the end of the year. In addition, she is required to provide her present and future employers for the next five years with a copy of the nursing board order and must pay $700 for the cost of the investigation.
