A Mount Horeb couple who independently played the same SuperCash numbers were doubly lucky Saturday night.

Verlyn and Judy Adamson had two of the four winning tickets Saturday.

The SuperCash ticket matching all six numbers is always worth $350,000, meaning the couple hit the jackpot twice. After taxes they will receive about $478,000.

"I'm in a state of shock," Judy Adamson said Monday. "That's what it is. We were just shaking this morning and couldn't believe it was possibly true."

The other two winning tickets were also sold in southwestern Wisconsin — one at Cenex Mini Mart, 501 W. Main St. in Mount Horeb, the Adamsons' hometown — and the other at the Darlington Mini Mart at highways 23 and 81 in Darlington.

Adamson, 69, said she and her husband, 70, learned they'd won about 8 a.m. Monday after checking the lottery Web site on their home computer. She said they hadn't checked earlier because they had a family outing at the Wisconsin Dells on Sunday, and they had a busy day on Monday as well, not even counting the lottery win.

Verlyn Adamson had an out-patient hand surgery Monday scheduled at St. Mary's Hospital, so that's where they spent most of Monday afternoon, Judy Adamson said.

"We just got home (from the hospital) and really it's not sunk in," she said about 6:30 p.m. Monday. "We really haven't had time to talk or plan."

The couple's first stop Monday, though, was the lottery office in Madison, to be sure what they'd read on their computer was true.

"Until we were handed the check, it wasn't real to us," she said, "and it still doesn't feel that way."

Adamson said she and her husband have been playing the lottery for "quite a number of years," and it was the strategy of her husband, who still works as an accountant, for them both to always play the same numbers. She didn't know his exact reasoning for choosing the numbers he did, but said she always left that part up to him.

"He has one of those analytical, numbers minds," she said of Verlyn, who was resting Monday night after his surgery. "It was a long, planned-out thing, to just keep doing it over and over. It was a thought-out process."

Judy Adamson said they haven't decided what to do with the money and had only told members of their immediate family about it on Monday.

While there have been multiple SuperCash winners, "I don't recall a time when we've had members of the same household win in the same drawing like that," said Wisconsin Lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage.

However, in January 2007, a man holding four winning SuperCash tickets won a total of $1.4 million.

Verlyn Adamson bought his winning ticket at The Pit Stop, 609 Dodge St. in Mineral Point and Judy bought hers at the Stop-N-Go on Highway 18-151 in Barneveld.

Ticket holders have 180 days from Aug. 16 to claim their winnings, Bohage said.
