The Onalaska American Legion and Legion Auxiliary are gearing up for the third annual Legion Community Days, set for Aug. 22-24 on the Legion grounds at 731 Sand Lake Road.
Last year’s event saw attendance and revenue triple from the first year and organizers are looking forward to another successful Legion Community Days celebration.
Some new things for this year’s event will be a euchre tournament and a Texas Hold ’em tournament, along with a flea market and craft show to be held out on the baseball diamond.
Back this year will be the Big E inflatables for the kids along with games and popcorn and pop stands.
Friday night’s festivities kick off with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. That might make people work up an appetite, so there will be a pig roast and pork sandwiches for a buck. Studebaker 7 will perform from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Saturday starts off with a pancake breakfast served from 7 to 11am. Then Ed and Sally Sullivan’s Blarney Party radio show will be broadcast live from the beverage tent from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with door prizes and free coffee and doughnuts.
A busy Saturday afternoon schedule has pet therapy dogs on the grounds, police and fire equipment on display, Julie’s School of Dance, the Warriors Drum Corps and deejay Steve Mace. The Pinsetters will provide music for the evening from 7:30 to 11:30.
An ecumenical worship service with Al Townsend at 11 a.m. begins Sunday’s full slate of activities. Rooster Andy will serve chickencue starting at noon. The Blue Star Cadets will put on a concert at noon, while the Jim Bee Three will perform from 1 to 3 p.m., with Karaoke with On Kue to follow.
There also will be drawings for free trips to Wendover, Nev., and Jackpot Junction, Minn., with signup in the clubrooms and in the beverage tent. Winners must be present during the drawings, which will be held at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
All the Legion Community Days activities are free and open to all.
