Each year, Chileda in La Crosse holds a premiere road race during Riverfest. This is a sanctioned 5K and 10K race attracting elite runners and families enjoying an early morning walk through La Crosse.

While the race is the main event, the highlight is the pancake breakfast served by the Holmen and Mindoro Lions clubs. The pancake breakfast has been going on for many years and is enjoyed by hundreds of runners, walkers, course marshals and visitors.

Most people do not know how much work, planning and coordination goes into serving thousands of pancakes and many pounds of sausages, but for the children and staff at Chileda, we greatly appreciate the efforts of the Lions clubs. Thank you for making a great event even greater and supporting the work being done by Chileda.

Kirby Lentz is president and chief operating officer of Chileda.
