Park and rec programs abound for the summer

Summer fun isn’t over yet. Below is a roundup of activities for summer lovers in Onalaska and Holmen to join.

Onalaska Parks and Recreation:

Register online at http://activenet1.active.com/onalaksaparkrec, or in person at city hall.

  • Movies at Van Riper Park, Onalaska:

  • “Shrek the Third” 9 p.m. Saturday, July 12: Free

  • Picnic and movie in the Park, 5 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, August 3; dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse at 6:30 p.m., movie at approximately 8:30 p.m.; $7 per person or $20 per family: Movie to be determined.

  • Fishing:

  • Fishing 101 for ages 6-8 at the Onalaska Waterfront; 9 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 23; Residents $10/Non-residents $21.

  • Fishing Camp for ages 8-12 at the Onalaska Waterfront; 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 30; Residents $10/Non-residents $21.

  • Crafts for kids:

  • Kids create arts and crafts, play indoor and outdoor games at the Onalaska Community Center at the corner of Sixth and Quincy; for ages 3-8; 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, July 17. Please wear old clothes or a swimsuit, bring towel and change of clothes. Prior registration required: $5 per child.

  • Woodworking:

    Kids build a rocket-shaped bird house at the Rowe Park Shelter #1; Ages 7-14, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 15; cost $10.

  • Babysitter training:

    American Red Cross babysitting training at the Community Center for ages 11 and older; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 19; Cost $32.

  • Aquatic Center:

  • Swimming lessons: Session three from July 14-25, different times for different levels; Session four goes from July 28 to August 8; cost per class $20 for residents, $45 for non residents.

  • Family Fun Days: Christmas in July, 1 to 3 p.m., and Crazy Day of giveaways, contests and games, 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 6.

  • Teen night at the pool: Teens only after-hours party; pizza and drink; 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 20.

  • Grandparent’s Day: Grandparents swim for free Sunday, July 27.

  • Second annual Diggity Dog Dip; co-sponsored by Onalaska Parks and Rec and Diggity Dog Daycare; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 30; cost is $10 per dog or $15 for two dogs. Dogs must have Bordetella, Distemper and Rabies shots.

  • More water fun:

  • Log rolling for all ages at the Waterfront: Session two is on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 7 to July 23 from 5 to 5:50 p.m. for one program and 6 to 6:50 p.m. for another. Also Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 8 through July 24 from 10 to 10:50 a.m. and 11 to 11:50 a.m.; Session three begins July 28 and goes through August 14; cost is $20 for residents, $35 for non-residents.

  • Holmen Parks and Recreation

    Register online at www.holmenwi.com/holmenpr, in person at the Village Hall or call 526-2152.

  • Arts and Crafts at the Halfway Creek Park for ages 4 and up; 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 5 through August 14; cost $15 for residents, $30 for non-residents.

  • Tennis:

    Herb Wunsch Memorial Tennis Tournament for age 18 and under July 31through August 2; cost $15 singles, $25 doubles/team.

  • quatic center events

  • Swim lessons for all ages:

    Session three from July 7 through July 18; Session four from July 21 through August 1; Session five from August 4 through August 15; Cost $15 for residents, $30 for non-residents; Internet registration only.

  • Log rolling for ages 7 to adult: Monday through Fridays: session three July 7 through 18, session 5 August 4 through August 15; cost $15 resident, $30 non-resident, register online or at Holmen Village Hall.

  • Aquatic center theme days; come dressed for the theme: La Crosse Loggers Day 1 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, Kids summer carnival, 1 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, August 6.
